I think the disdain came from the fact that European royalty used to marry cousins and people wanted to distance themselves from them; they however forget a lot of things about such marriages such as the fact that they consecutively did these marriages for many many generations. Furthermore, they did not limit their marriages to cousins but also half siblings in some cases.





Studies show that the marriage of first cousins has the same chance of complications in children as would a woman over 40 (some have it as low as 30 or 35 I've heard) having children. In other words, they have an increased rate of complications by 1-2% of the normal 1-2% in non-related couples.





Studies further go on to show that as you go up in the level of what kind of cousins you are, i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. cousins, the chance of complications decrease by 4 times so if people still feel the marriage of cousins is an abomination, 2nd and higher is definitely fine.





The complications also are not simply birth defects and retardation; that is an incredible oversimplification. What occurs is that b/c there is a relative closeness in cousins, traits which can be dormant before can come out in the child b/c genes are similar or genetic traits that are similar will pass on more. Again, this varies depending on how close the cousins are, i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

it is legal in most place it's legal here in the uk.but it is incest and they should not be allowed to have children as there is a much bigger chance of them having deformations and physical and mental disabilities.it isn't fair on the kids its selfish.
actually in Islam its illegal to marry your father, brother, uncle ect.


but cousin isnt so close, as a father or brother. I dont think its illegal either. Many cultures hold this practice. i am married to my cousin too.
Marrying cousins is legal almost everywhere.
